About Carole Johnson
Carole Johnson AKA Carole Knapp Johnson - Haddam Neck, Connecticut
Early childhood experiences included foster homes and a Catholic Orphanage on Whitney Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut. This fostered a need to escape into the world of pencils, shapes and colors.
Carole Johnson was an owner/operator of a Graphic Design firm in New Haven, CT and serviced clients that included Tetley Tea, Uniroyal Chemical, Cadbury Schweppes, Playtex International, Madrigal Audio Laboratories Inc., and many other nationally known clients. Her education in business, marketing and fine art serves as a solid base for her current return to the world of fine art.
She has studied with many internationally known artists and has learned much from each of them.
For four (4) years, Carole was a frequent guest on a cable TV show exploring the nature of reality. She also gave many seminar talks on this subject. She combines her deep awareness of the unformed worlds to her passion for creating art that either reflects that directly or conveys how those worlds manifest in this physical world.
Painting people from other lands in everyday activities is a favorite subject. Travel to many other countries have provided the photographs that are used for this endeavor. In addition to figurative painting, abstract expressionism is often created using watercolor, acrylic and in some cases mixed media which may or may not incorporate some collage.
Recent awards include First Prize at the Zilkha Gallery at Wesleyan University.
Connecticut Watercolor Society recently juried in two of Carole's paintings. One abstract, entitled "Dawn" and a figurative painting entitled " Masaai Boy" done from a photograph taken by Carole in Tanzania, Africa.
Carole is presently teaching Children's Art Camps at Maple and Main Gallery of Fine Art in Chester, CT, where she is a member of a co op there at One Maple Street, Chester, CT.
